Textile and leather manufacturing

History

Textile and leather manufacturing is one of the oldest industrial sectors, developing from handcraft production into mechanized processing during the Industrial Revolution. Spinning, weaving, tanning, and finishing were gradually transformed by powered machines, chemical treatments, and later automated control systems. Over time, the sector expanded to serve apparel, upholstery, footwear, technical textiles, hygiene products, and protective materials, while retaining a mix of traditional and highly specialized production methods.

Applications

The sector covers machinery used to prepare fibers and hides, form fabrics and knit goods, and apply dyeing, finishing, calendering, and other surface treatments. It also includes equipment for leather processing, industrial laundry, mattress production, and the manufacture of medical masks and respiratory protection. In a used machinery marketplace, buyers often look for machines that support batch production, finishing lines, and material-specific processing where reliability, throughput, and product consistency are important.
