Woodworking

History

Woodworking is one of the oldest industrial sectors, developing from hand tools and workshop craft into mechanized production during the industrial era. Over time, saws, planers, jointers, sanders, and shaping machines were adapted for higher output, better repeatability, and safer handling of timber and panel products. Modern woodworking equipment now supports both traditional joinery and automated fabrication, including CNC-based systems and specialized machines for finishing and assembly.

Applications

Woodworking machinery is used to cut, shape, bore, join, edge, sand, and finish solid wood, plywood, MDF, and other engineered materials. Common applications include cabinet and furniture production, door and window manufacturing, flooring, panel processing, and timber preparation. The sector also covers equipment for veneer handling, mortising and tenoning, edgebanding, gluing, and dowel insertion, as well as portable and site-use machines such as chainsaws for primary wood processing and maintenance.
